History and Divine Marriage
According to the holy scripture Akilathirattu Ammanai, Poo Pathi is the sacred ground where Ayya Vaikundar spiritually married and unified with Poomadanthai (an incarnation of Bhoomadevi, the Earth Goddess).
Following the divine unification with the Saptha Kanniyar (Seven Virgins), Ayya united with Poomadanthai to consummate the destruction of Kali (darkness and oppression) and establish the righteous Dharma Yukam. During this celestial marriage, heavenly devas showered a continuous canopy of fragrant flowers (Poo in Tamil) upon the divine union, giving this sacred shrine the name Poo Pathi.
